Preamble
We, the multinational members of the Community Development Special Interest Group, believe the empowerment of communities is a vital component of a sustainable global society.
Community Development may be defined as the creation of an environment where common goals are established in the context of learning, trust, responsibility, cooperation, synergy, and optimism.
Combining this environment with required capacity assets in the form of people, skills, resources, and motivation may result in all members of a community, whether local, state, national, or global, experiencing success.
Resolutions
To facilitate the actions of Community Development, we resolve to:
1. Identify relevant Community Development components ranging from local to global communities.
2. Discover appropriate links between Community Development components and the existing curriculum.
3. Integrate Community Development components into the teaching/learning environment.
4. Involve students of all ages in action-learning project-based activities within their communities.
5. Create learning communities and provide life-long education opportunities leading to improvement and development of the community environment.
6. Develop a cosmopolitan, trans-community global citizen able to cooperate with others and change the economic, environmental, and social context for the better.
